Hi Marketers, welcome to another posting from Digital Marketing Blog. In this post, we are going to share with you three tricks that we use to make our blog post stand out from the rest. Are you new to blogging? Do you own a blog, but can’t seem to attract any audience? Don’t worry, you’ve come to the right place. Now, let’s dive into the details.
1. Start With a Killer Headline.
With 2.2 million new blog posts created every single day, the first and foremost thing to consider to make your post stand out is a good headline that can attract the reader’s attention.
According to Neil Patel, 8 out of 10 people will read your headline, but only 2 out of 10 will read the rest of your post.
So what is a good headline, and how do we write one?
Make it Short and Sweet
An ideal headline should be no longer than 60 words, and approximately 6-10 words in length. People often don’t even read the headlines, when they are looking for information online. To catch the readers that are scanning through hundreds and thousands of headlines, your headline must be short and to the point.
Use Trigger Words
Remember, one word can change everything. It has been demonstrated countless times in blogging that a single word in the headline can change the conversion rate of the blog dramatically. Try use interesting adjectives and negative wording – such as unique, essential, or never. These words make the readers curious and see for themselves if the content lives up to its headline.
The 50/50 Rule
According to Clark, about 50% of time spent on writing any persuasive content should be spent on nailing the headline. Advertising legend David Ogilvy rewrote this automobile advertisement 104 times –
βAt 60 miles an hour, the only thing you hear in the new Rolls Royce is the ticking of the dashboard clock β¦β
David Ogilvy, 1957
However, a good headline won’t stop readers from leaving your page if your content is mediocre. Quality content supplemented by an attractive headline is the only recipe to success.
2. Make Use of Visual Content.
The four major sensory modalities in human’s ability to learn are visual, aural or auditory, read/write, and kinesthetic. People learn better in different ways, but most people are capable of learning through any of them. Hence, using visual and other media content in writing delivers information in a much easier way than when only text is used.
Also, visual content does not just mean images. Infographics, such as shown in the picture above, are a useful method of building links as well as their original purpose of visualizing information. Canva offers awesome free templates, and premium ones that you can use when you purchase a subscription.
BEWARE of Copyright
If you take an image from the web, make sure that you are not making any copyright infringements. One way of ensuring that you are never using copyrighted images is by using Creative Commons. CC is an engine that offers freely reusable images without signup.
3. Use Search Engine Optimization.
Search engine optimization(SEO) is an effective digital marketing tool that you can use to generate more traffic for your blog. To briefly explain what it is, SEO is the practice of increasing traffic by improving the organic search ranking of your blog. Link building, mentioned earlier, is an SEO strategy.
You can find more detailed information about SEO in our previous post. If your blog operates on WordPress, then you can easily access SEO plugins such as Yoast that offers a free version, or AIOSEO that we are currently using for our blog.
Thoughts
There’s so much more to blogging than what was discussed in this article today, but here are some of the most important factors that change the volume of your traffic. One last thing, the most fundamentally effective way of promoting your blog is to have quality content. To make this happen, make sure you educate yourself on the most relevant, up-to-date information on your field and process it into your blog. If you are serious about your blog, don’t be afraid to use the time and resources it takes to improve it.
So that’s it for today, hope you guys learned something new from this post! Stay tuned for our next update.
